Apprenticeship - Education & Training
Not only our guests are pleased by our high standard of quality as far as service and comfort are concerned. Similarly, our employees are satisfied with their employer which is reflected in an extraordinary employee loyalty. Hence, we are proud to say that some of our co-workers have been working here for more than 30 years now. We understand it is very important to support and encourage the professional as well as the individual development of our apprentices and employees. Therefore, we provide our apprentices the opportunity to gather experience abroad by doing an internship for several weeks at one of our partner VCH-hotels in Germany, London or Rome, among others.
As simple, standard hotels but with all comfort and full of tradition, individuality and quality, we intend to give our guests a little more ambience, cordiality and humaneness.
Our apprentices get a sound education and training which is going qualify them to work within the hotel sector and to open doors to exciting and varied tasks.

Put theory into practice!
At Hotel Albrechtshof in Berlin, it is tradition to conduct our so-called ‘trainee days’ every three months where the apprentices get the chance to put their theoretical knowledge into practice by managing particular hotel business segments. This way, our apprentices learn to assume responsibility from early on.
Furthermore, there are trainings and seminars for apprentices and when the time has come we make sure they can concentrate on preparing for their exams. In order to promote and improve their social skills, the apprentices have to work at an emergency shelter provided by Berlin’s City Mission. In addition, provision is made for our apprentices to work for a brief period at one of our partner houses in Berlin, Wittenberg or Usedom. In the event of excellent achievements it is also possible to participate in an exchange programme with one of our partner hotels (VCH).

Hotel Management Apprenticeship

Working in a hotel requires flexibility and enthusiasm. During three years of apprenticeship you will pass through all departments including kitchen, reception, restaurant, housekeeping, personnel, administration, banquet and marketing.

Would you describe yourself as flexible, eager for knowledge and attentive? And do you consider yourself as someone who likes to work with people? In that case an apprenticeship for hotel management would be the perfect fit for you since it involves passing through all departments of a hotel business and learning about all its contexts.

The apprenticeship of hotel management includes the following tasks:

  • Receiving and serving, and providing guidance for guests
  • Arranging and monitoring of guests rooms, room cleaning
  • Conducting a sales conversation
  • Maintenance of the hotel cash register
  • Planning, organizing and conducting of events
  • Developing, implementing and controlling of marketing
  • Merchandise management
  • Serving food and drinks
  • Breakfast service

During three years of apprenticeship (it is possible to reduce to 2 and a half in case of distinguished achievements) you will pass through all departments including kitchen, reception, restaurant, housekeeping, personnel, administration, banquet and marketing. You will learn how to organize and control all the important operations of hotel business and how to work in teams. Vocational school will take place either twice a week or once a month in blocks.

Prerequisites for the apprenticeship:

  • secondary school certificate or 'Abitur' (higher education entrance qualification)
  • ability to work in a team and to communicate
  • knowledge of foreign languages is of advantage
  • Organizational skills and talent for sales
  • Good manners and a pleasing appearance

With this apprenticeship you can work as 'Commis de Rang' and work your way up to become Food & Beverage Manager.

This apprenticeship includes the following tasks:

  • Decorating rooms and tables
  • Organising and hosting events and festivities
  • Writing offers
  • Accounting
  • Taking service, food and beverage courses

During three years of apprenticeship (it is possible to reduce to 2 and a half in case of distinguished achievements) you will pass through all departments including kitchen, reception, restaurant, housekeeping, personnel, administration, banquet and marketing. In contrast to the apprenticeship to become a hotel specialist, the main focus is on the restaurant department. So, you will primarily learn how to organize and control all the important operations of restaurant business and how to work in teams. Vocational school will take place either twice a week or once a month in blocks.

Prerequisites for the apprenticeship:

  • secondary school certificate or 'Abitur' (higher education entrance qualification
  • ability to work in a team and to communicate
  • knowledge of foreign languages is of advantage

Career prospects

Cook Apprenticeship

Cooks perform all operations that apply to producing and preparing dishes and meals. Hence, crafting skills are required as well as being able to learn and perform techniques to make marinates, as well as coatings and fillings of any kind. With this degree you can work as a 'Commis de Cuisine' and work your way up to Food & Beverage Manager.

This apprenticeship includes the following tasks:

  • Preparing, processing and dressing of food
  • Applying professional kitchen technology and modern working tools
  • Taking into account economical and nutritional aspects as well as ecological factors
  • Product presentation
  • Advising customers (guests)

During three years of apprenticeship (it is possible to reduce to 2 and a half in case of distinguished achievements) you will pass through all relevant departments. Vocational school will take place either twice a week or once a month in blocks.

Prerequisites for the apprenticeship:

  • having completed secondary modern school ('Hauptschulabschluss') if possible with a secondary school certificate
  • skilled craftsmanship
  • creativity
  • good physical condition (good health)
  • calculatory skills
  • being able to work in a team

Career prospects

Cooks start their career as 'Commis de Cuisine' and can move up the ladder to be 'Chef de Cuisine' or even Food & Beverage manager. The apprenticeship also prepares you to autonomously manage a restaurant business.
